ENABLE MIUI 11 AOD ON ANY XIAOMI PHONES

What if your phone is not one of the officially supported phones? There is a workaround, fortunately, to enable the native MIUI 11 Ambient Mode with Always On Display. This requires root, however.

Steps to Enable MIUI 11 AOD on Any Xiaomi Mi, Redmi, and Redmi Note Phones:-

Step 0. Update your phone to MIUI 11 or MIUI 12

Step 1. Unlock the bootloader.

Step 2. Install TWRP or any other custom recoveries such as Orange Fox, Pitch Black, or Red Wolf. Depending on the type and variant of your phone, use the search form in this blog or ask Google.

Step 3. Download Magisk for MIUI 11 and flash it through TWRP. This will root your phone systemlessly. For help ask at my Telegram Group

Step 4. Install a Root File Manager app of your choices such as MT Manager.

Step 5. Open up the root file explorer app and go to /system/etc/device_features/. You’ll find a dot XML file there. Depending on your phone series, the name will vary mido.xml (Redmi Note 4), whyred.xml (Redmi Note 5 or 5 Pro), lavender.xml (Redmi Note 7), violet.xml (Redmi Note 7 Pro), ginkgo.xml (Redmi Note 8), beryllium.xml (Poco F1), and so on.

Step 6. Open that .xml file to edit it.

Step 7. Scroll down the page to the bottom and add this code as shown in the screenshot pic:

Step 8. Save it and exit the editor.

Step 9. Download the stock APK file of MIUI 11 AOD. Grab the zip file directly to your phone.

Step 10. Open the downloaded MiuiAod zip file and extract it.

Step 11. Open the root explorer app again and copy the MiuiAod folder to /system/priv-app/

Step 12. Go to the newly copied MiuiAod folder located at /system/priv-app/MiuiAod/ and you’ll find the MiuiAod.apk file.

Step 13. Set the file permission for MiuiAod.apk to 644. Tap on the file, hold, then choose Set Permission.

Step 14. Reboot your phone.

Step 15. Now enable the Ambient Mode following the steps explained in the previous section (Enabling AOD on Supported Phones; through Settings).
